There is nothing quite as miraculous and beautiful as witnessing the birth of a baby. And when that baby happens to belong to your brother, it makes it that much more emotional and beautiful. Stephanie and Jason gave me the incredible honor of photographing the birth of baby Alyssa. Alyssa’s birth was relatively smooth as far as deliveries go. Stephanie handled the excruciating pain of contractions in a way that I can only describe as grace. In between contractions, she was smiling. (Seriously….Who smiles during labor? This girl did). In those moments of tremendous pain, there were incredible amounts of beautiful and emotional moments.

Alyssa Ann White was born on Feb 25th at 2:36 pm. She weighed 7 lbs 13 ounces and measured 20.5 inches long.

Special thanks to the staff at Sentara Albemarle Hospital and the Midwives at Northeastern OBGYN for being photography friendly.

Some people don’t “get it” and give strange looks when the topic of photographing a birth comes up. To me, it’s merging my two passions together (photography and nursing). I know first hand that the moments surrounding the birth of your baby are fleeting. Chalk it up to being overly exhausted, medicated and overwhelmed…these special moments aren’t remembered as clearly as we’d like.

Side Note: Birth Photography is not something that I’m able to offer to the general public because of the unpredictability of labor. Only family and my closest friends are who I offer and gift these sessions to.
